Violence against healthcare workers is rising. Can the latest tech from Silicon Valley help? Canopy – which, today, is breaking out from the white label it has been sold under for the past 4 years – boasts an AFFORDABLE “personal panic button” for healthcare workers in hospital systems. Co-founder & CEO Shan Sinha is here to tell us all about the Bluetooth, cloud-based security system, which is already used by more than 200,000 workers across 30+ health systems.

Cool features of Canopy’s workplace safety tech?? Well, the centerpiece is the portable, wearable panic button that can be worn on a badge or scrubs and, when pressed, identifies in real-time who needs help, their precise location, AND which other staffers are nearby to assist. The signal is transmitted via sensors that simply plug into regular outlets (Shan shows-and-tells us about them in the video) and enable full-coverage across an entire organization with no blackout zones and not a lot of complicated installation. A new innovation being launched today further extends the reach of that safety net outside, to parking lots and parking garages (up to 10 levels down!!) to ensure workers feel safe coming in and going home.

With up to 75% of all OSHA’s workplace violence claims coming from healthcare, the pervasiveness of this problem – and need for a flexible, inexpensive, scalable solution – is real. Shan lets us in on some of the stats Canopy has captured and how current ‘status quo’ tech and training are leaving workers at-risk. We also get into why Canopy has decided to change its business model to sell direct – especially when the start-up has been profitable selling through partners. Does this mean that now Canopy will start seeking outside capital for the first time in its history?? Tune in to find out!
