Secret Invasion is the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debuting on Disney+, it follows the journey of Nick Fury helping Talos and the Skrulls find a home after Captain Marvel. It is designed as an espionage, paranoia thriller however I think it completely fails at this and ends up being Marvel's worst project yet.

Official Plot:
Nick Fury uncovers a conspiracy by a group of renegade Skrulls led by Gravik to gain control of Earth by assuming positions of power across the world, recruiting Talos to stop it and save humanity.

Cast and characters
Main
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury:
The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who was working with the Skrulls in deep space for years before returning to Earth. Fury has been up in deep space for so long in part because he is "worn out" and uncertain of "his place in the world" following the deaths of his colleagues in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Jackson said the series would delve deeper into Fury's past and future and allowed him to "explore something other than the badassery of who Nick Fury is", and "to find out who he was and delve into how much of a toll his job actually takes on his personal life". He continued that Secret Invasion allowed him to "figure out some stuff and work out some new things" with Fury, which Jackson did not have the opportunity to do in his previous appearances. Executive producer Jonathan Schwartz added to this, noting that "sins from his past start to haunt him once again" given the things he had to do to protect Earth in the past have costs and ramifications.

Ben Mendelsohn as Talos: The leader of a Skrull sect and an ally of Fury.

Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik:
The leader of a group of rebel Skrulls who has broken away from Talos' faction, believing the best way to help their kind is to infiltrate Earth for the resources they need. He sets up his operation in a decommissioned radioactive site in Russia. Describing the character, director Ali Selim says that Gravik is not a terrorist nor "just a bad guy with a bomb", adding the series would explore how his grievance came about.

Killian Scott as Pagon: A rebel Skrull and Gravik's second-in-command.
Samuel Adewunmi as Beto: A rebel Skrull recruit.

Dermot Mulroney as Ritson: The president of the United States.

Richard Dormer as Prescod: A former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who uncovered the Skrulls' plan to invade Earth.

Emilia Clarke as G'iah:
Talos' daughter. Clarke described G'iah as having "a kind of punk feeling" to her, adding that being "a refugee kid" has "hardened her". She also resents Fury since he has not been able to deliver on the promises he made to find the Skrulls a new home. G'iah was previously portrayed as a child in the MCU film Captain Marvel (2019) by Auden L. Ophuls and Harriet L. Ophuls.

Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth:
A high-ranking MI6 agent and an old ally of Fury's who looks to protect Great Britain's national security interests during the infiltration. Described as "a more antagonistic presence" in the series, Schwartz said that Falsworth could be working either with or against Fury depending on their desired goals.

Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes:
An officer in the U.S. Air Force and Avenger who operates the War Machine armor. Jackson described Rhodes in the series as "a political animal and not a guy who has a special suit", with Rhodes serving as the president's "right-hand man"; this forces him to make "a lot of decisions—some good, some bad", with Cheadle adding Rhodes was "more adversarial" than he has been previously, and was wrestling with "being a military man following the chain of command" or "going outside the box".

Special guest
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill:
A former high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Fury but has been out of contact with him. The series allowed Smulders to show more depth to Hill than in her previous appearances.

Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross: A former agent of the Central Intelligence Agency. Freeman portrays a Skrull shapeshifting as Ross.

Directed by: Ali Selim
