Barotrauma is a 2D co-op submarine simulator - in space, with survival horror elements.
That’s a mouthful, but it’s also accurate.

You’re not the chosen one on some do-or-die mission to save the world, you’re just part of a submarine crew - though that is an important position, since submarines are essentially the only way to move people and cargo around on this planet.

You can take on the role of whatever you want, Captain, electrical or mechanical engineer, medic, security officer, or a jack-of-all trades, master-of-none, assistant.
While your inherent duty should in theory apply to your class of choice, nothing is class-exclusive. Your chosen role simply dictates your starting skill levels and items. Do something for long enough and regardless of class, you’ll get a point in that skill.

This game has quickly become one of my favorites, having already put an embarrassing amount of hours into the singleplayer and am currently dumping most of my time into the multiplayer.

It might not be for everyone, but this is definitely in my top 10 indie games of all time, and a definite buy.
