He finally did after he joined up with Motown Records. It was the legendary label that launched other stars such as Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder. Smokey found massive success under the label. He sang hit songs such as Tears of a Clown and You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me. He also wrote plenty of hits for other artists. He doesn’t believe there’s a secret to his success. It’s as simple as this; the love of the music has kept him going for decades.

Smokey continues to sing and tour today. He recently released a solo album. He also loves collaborating with others. He put out a duet album and was pleasantly surprised by the results.
