The Morning Glory Clouds
The Morning Glory is the name given to a spectacular cloud formation that occurs in the Gulf of Carpentaria region of northeastern Australia. It is composed of a low roll cloud or often a succession of roll clouds, sometimes stretching from horizon to horizon. The clouds are seen early in the morning, most frequently towards the end of the late dry season from early September to about mid-November. They are typically 1 or 2 km in width, 1 km deep, and may be 100 km or more long, with cloud bases often no more than 100 or 200 m high.
