Bitwarden is a popular choice that has a free version. However, can you really trust it? To answer that, I’ve got an honest Bitwarden review for you.

🔎 Ease of use

The interface is a bit basic, you get a list of your saved items and a space on the side where they open. The sidebar lets you browse through different types of saved data, as well as choose between folders. What I would like here is a more intuitive approach. Overall, Bitwarden’s apps are very minimalistic, but that doesn’t make them easy to use, so there’s plenty of room for improvement.

🔑 Bitwarden features

Bitwarden is rather minimalistic, so there really aren’t many extra features. Besides the standard features such as password generator, autofill, and password sharing, there is a Send feature, which is kind of an improved sharing feature. It’s great to see that BITWARDEN already has passkeys, which support passwordless logins to your vaults. If you go for a premium plan, you will have a variety of built-in password-monitoring tools. It includes password reusing, password strength, unsecure websites, and breached databases reports. But that’s about it.

đź”’ Security

If you match up Bitwarden vs other password managers, then you start seeing some flaws. A research, conducted by a data and intelligence company called FlashPoint, revealed an issue with Bitwarden’s auto-filling feature within embedded iframes, which can cause password theft in specific scenarios. But having in mind that Bitwarden was never breached, the answer to the question “Is Bitwarden safe?” is yes, even despite its autofill issues.

đź’¸ Is Bitwarden worth it?

If you are limited to choosing from FREE password manager options, Bitwarden is not a bad option at all. It has unlimited password entries and devices. However, you don’t get any extras, and no Authenticator app either.

For a full-featured package, you’ll need to get the premium version. While there isn't that much, considering Bitwarden is one of the most affordable managers, I'd say you get what you paid for. Now if we compare it to the market leaders like Nordpass or 1Password, those are pricier, but alongside modern interfaces, they also have way more features to offer.

Final thoughts ➡️

So…Overall, is Bitwarden good? Well, if you need a really affordable or outright free option, it is. I am also a fan of its browser extension. But if you need more than that, or if you are not too sure about this password manager because of its reputation regarding solving potential security flaws, I recommend providers such as NordPass or 1Password.
