Bi-planes are beautiful, and while they’re reminiscent of an earlier time with a simpler approach to aircraft design, they’re still in production today. It’s just that they tend to be more complicated to make than monoplanes.
So what exactly is a bi-plane? Well, the simplest definition is that it’s an early style of aircraft design that uses two pairs of wings, hence the name. For it to be a true bi-plane, the wings also need to be situated on top of each other.
