In British Columbia, the Trans-Canada Highway takes travellers through the Columbia Mountains. As the highway climbs through Rogers Pass National Historic Site and Glacier National Park, it passes beneath 135 avalanche paths.

Skiing and explosive avalanche control don’t mix. Discover why the Winter Permit System was put in place and how allows access to some backcountry areas along the transportation corridor through Glacier National Park when no avalanche control is anticipated.
