The Impacts of Autonomy: Post-Brexit Regulatory Developments Across the EU and UK & Implications for Global Banking

With Brexit enacted, regulatory frameworks in both the UK and EU are beginning to reflect this reality, with implications for financial services in these domiciles, but also for global banking more broadly. Issues currently in play in this context include: the finalization and implementation of Basel III, banks operating through different legal entity structures and the associated challenges, and current supervisory views on the cross-border provision of services. The prospect of finding areas for improvements in local and global regulatory frameworks, meanwhile, could present an opportunity for both regulators and industry. This panel convenes EU, UK, and U.S. regulators and policymakers for an in-depth discussion on the opportunities and challenges associated with the post-Brexit financial landscape.

Panelists:

Thomas Haigh, First Secretary, Economic, British Embassy, Washington DC
Paulina Dejmek Hack, Director for General Affairs, European Commission's DG FISMA
Jeff Samuel, Managing Director, Americas Head Group Governmental and Regulatory Affairs, UBS
Nicholas K. Tabor, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Financial Markets, U.S. Department of the Treasury
Moderator: Barnabas (Barney) Reynolds, Global Head of the Financial Services Industry Group, Shearman & Sterling LLP
