Ian Bailey has said he has written to the makers of a documentary about the demise of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, saying they did not have permission to use an interview he did with them. Sophie was released by Netflix and production company, Lightbox. It is one of two documentaries on the subject to have been released this month, the first being Sky’s by Jim Sheridan. Ian Bailey features in both, but he has said that he only cooperated with the Sky piece. Speaking about the Netflix documentary, Ian Bailey says “I think it is a piece of self-serving, demonising propaganda,” based on the clips he has seen of it.

In this episode The Behavior Panel analyze and interview Ian Bailey did with RTÉ.

Sophie Toscan du Plantier was a French television producer who died outside her holiday home near Toormore, Schull, County Cork, Ireland, on the night of 23 December 1996. A mother of one, Toscan du Plantier was 39.

British journalist Ian Bailey was arrested twice by the Garda Síochána (Irish police), yet no charges were laid as the Director of Public Prosecutions found there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Bailey lost a libel case against six newspapers in 2003. He also lost a wrongful arrest case against the Gardaí, minister for Justice, and Attorney General in 2015.

In 2019, Bailey was convicted of homicide by the Cour d'Assises de Paris and sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was tried in absentia in France after winning a legal battle against extradition. In 2020, Ireland's High Court ruled that Bailey could not be extradited.
