Heavy snowfall forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights from Munich airport - and the suspension of operations there until Sunday. Long-distance rail services have also been disrupted by the extreme winter weather.

Parts of Switzerland, Czech Republic and Austria are also affected by the extreme weather.
