In this video, I’ll show you how to do the famous Stan’s shifter mod in order to reinforce the shifter bracket assembly for improved shifting feel. The shift feel on the Lotus Elise and Exige varies a lot car to car and many people complain about sloppy shifter feel. This can cause you to miss shifts in high speed situations like at the racetrack. This simple and easy modification helps to eliminate that and improves the accuracy of your shifts.

Note: this applies to all S2 Elise and Exige models, although there are some variations in the later cars as to how the shifter bracket is designed from the factory. This video shows the setup on a 2005 Lotus Elise.

If you prefer a written version of this modification, you can find some helpful threads here:

You’ll need a few parts listed below from your local hardware store:

- M8x50 mm (1.25 pitch) hex. head bolt

- ~3-4mm spacer (I used a hex junction, cut to size with a hacksaw) OR stack of ~around fifteen ⅞” washers
Note: you can print a 3D one here:

- ⅞” washer for under the head of the bolt (Stan’s instructions say 1.5” washer there but then you have to cut part of the washer away, easier to just use a smaller one)
