Relaunching in Australia in 2023 with the Chery Omoda 5 could be exactly what the Chinese brand needs to make its mark.

Chery was around years ago, with a couple of cheap junk cars that were very attractively priced, but bare bones and bad to drive. Has the brand moved on from those budget beginnings?

Well, they are still aiming to sell cheap cars - as evidenced by the Omoda 5, which starts at about $30k AUD - but this time around there's all the tech and safety gear that you need to score a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, and this time around the brand has set up its own distribution in Australia and will back the cars with a 7 year warranty.

So, what gives? Is this the hallelujah moment for cheap Chinese cars in Australia? You're going to need to watch the video to find out!
