Today felt like every rock in Africa was out to get revenge on me! Stage 4, Day 4 is a brand-new section that has been added to this year's route and by the end of the day, I can only describe it as a long excruciating day of jaw rattling, horrendous rock and if this was a one day event, no one in their right mind would ever sign up to do it again!

Day 4 didn't disappoint for how tough racing to Dakar in the Africa Eco Race to Dakar Senegal is. Stage four of the AER was the longest special stage of the race, 467 km all off-road and no morning road liaison! This is one big adventure ride in Africa! The massive challenge of today was not just the length and the brutal rocky terrain of Africa, but the navigation was tough too. Navigating over several hundred kilometers of relatively flat but open plain and barren desert with nothing in sight other than a horizon and rock after rock that looks the same is a lot more challenging that one may think in extreme desert racing. There is no GPS technology. It is like being lost at sea, left looks the same as right and vice versa, it is no wonder so many people got lost on this day and didn't make it back until well after dark! Thankfully I wasn’t one of them. Having ridden with my Austrian angel on stage 3, we stuck together again today.
