NPR Music 2024 Tiny Desk Contest Submission
Song written by Maia Van Dyke
I wrote this song when I was 19 and never even made a demo. It’s about finding growth and beauty in what is alive and dead.

Lyrics
I am making my bed of roses
Now I will wash this red from my hands
And I will lay down with my will pinned upon my chest
I will lay down pennies on my eyes

Doo doo doo

We’ll find hope in those little children
The church bells ring while the old folks die
And choirs sing while they spread their ashes
We’ll thank god for the color in our eyes

My body like clockwork
I know it’s awkward but I’ll live and die and love again

I found god in my bed of roses
I found god with those pennies on my eyes
I found god with a pocket full of posies
I found god and now I’m painting the roses white

Doo doo doo
