Meet Ruby the Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has a fear of the outside.
Ruby lives with another Staffy named Buster (stay tuned for his second visit, he is the Staffy from Brighton).

This was our second trip to Brighton although this was my first time working with Ruby. She had a firework thrown at her a while back and has since developed a fear of the outside. During this short training session with Ruby we began to reintroduce her to the outside world using leash pressure as a guide.

She would not take food or follow another dog so leash pressure was the direction in which we went. Ruby shuts down when she gets afraid and refused to move or alternatively she tries to drag you back home. Both of these options are not good choices as she never learns to get use to being outside.

In this video you see a dog go from nervous to happy to nervous back to happy, this is her going through the motions but we refuse to let her shut down.

In order for Ruby to get use to being outside she must be outside but you need to be patient and understanding when she shuts down and keep the sessions very short.

Short sessions multiple times a day will help her get use to being outside.
