In this video I will be melting down scrap aluminum and casting solid metal gears. I started by modeling the gears in fusion 360 and printing both halves on my 3D printer. I then made of mold of them in petrobond sand. I melted down some scrap aluminum ingots from old recycled cans and poured the molten metal in the mold. I then cleaned up the gears by sanding and a lot of hand carving with my rotary tool. I finished by giving one of the gears a mirror polished finish.
