The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning is one of the best trucks you will ever tow with, despite what critics say. With up to 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque, this rig moves with shocking authority, no matter how much weight is in the bed or hooked to the hitch. The Lightning also has an independent rear suspension for a smooth ride and planted feel. Yes, range is an issue, as it drops quickly with a load, but when used within sensible limits, the Lighting excels. This truck is NOT suited for heavy-duty commercial hauling, but honestly, it easily meets the needs of probably 75% of full-size truck buyers, folks that occasionally tow snowmobiles, a small boat or light equipment.

Electric trucks aren’t perfect for every use case – in fact, they’d be a terrible choice if you needed to tow a horse trailer or move yards and yards of gravel – but for many drivers a battery-powered pickup, like the F-150 Lighting, is an ideal choice.
