The Scranton Army Ammunition Plant is one of only two sites in the U.S. that can make 155 mm artillery shells.

Many of the shells used by the Ukrainian army against Russian forces are made in Scranton.

The U.S. Army makes 155 mm artillery shells at Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania as well as a General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems facility nearby in Wilkes Barre with currently producing 28,000 rounds a month. The shells are then transported to the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, where they are filled with explosives and sealed.
