How much detail do you need to write in the description?
In this video from the opening of Ridley Scott's Alien, we see that sometimes films take their time to set up the mood, show the setting, and allow the audience to climatise to the new world. As a result, it seems like the description from Walter Hill's screenplay is sparse compared to the rich detail on the screen. However, ask yourself what happens in terms of story beats, and you'll find that more description would have resulted in a slow, tedious reading experience.

The video is taken from the Immersion Sci-Fi course, where writers learn exactly this. You don't need to learn any tricks or remember any rules; through replicating and studying relevant screenplay excerpts, students learn by osmosis to write the exact right amount of detail.
