When you open the Profitec GO, you will find the machine, a cleaning brush, a tamper, a blank, a small basket for a single espresso, a larger basket for a double espresso, and the portafilter. You will also receive a drip tray which needs to be placed within the machine by following the arrows.

When setting up the machine for the first time, it is important to fill the water tank with filtered water to avoid calcification, which can shorten the machine's lifespan. After filling the tank, the machine should be turned on by pressing the power button. You will see a digital screen displaying the temperature of the water, which will initially show "FIL." This indicates that the machine needs to fill the boiler. To do so, place a container under the water spout and press the coffee button until water starts coming out of the machine. This should take about 30 to 45 seconds.

After completing the "FIL." process, the machine needs to heat up, which typically takes about 4-5 minutes depending on ambient temperature. The machine will indicate when it is heating up with the message "UP." Once it reaches the set temperature, the digital display will show the temperature on the dial, indicating that the machine is ready to pull a shot of espresso.

To test the pressure of the machine, check the gauge which should be between 8 and 10 bars. It is important to use the correct water and always use water filters to avoid calcification and prolong the lifespan of the machine.

Now you’ve got your machine up to temperature, the next thing you want to test the first time you’re using it is what the pressure is. So this gauge that you can see here, this is going to tell you the pressure of the machine. Typically, you want to be looking at anywhere between 8 ½ and 12. We would probably recommend 9 bar – that’s what most people would go for on a home machine. Of course, you do have the ability to change that as you get further down the line with your brewing technique. Fresh out the box, we would generally suggest that you do it on 9.

Now, if you found when you were doing it that the machine was actually sitting at 8 bar, there is a way that you can change this. What you would do, put your blank portafilter back into the machine and turn it on.
Now look at the top, there will be a small screw section at the top of the machine. You can use the backend of a spoon or a flat head screwdriver. You can adjust the pressure here by taking it clockwise or anticlockwise. I’ll now show you how to make your pressure adjustment.

So as I say, portafilter with a blank in it goes into your machine. Now turn the coffee on button. You can see the pressure’s dropped; it starts building and building and building. Let’s pretend that it stops at 7 ½ bar, you’re now going to take your flat head screwdriver or the back of a spoon and just very slightly adjust it and you will be able to see it moving up on here. When you hit the desired pressure, stop.

Now you’ve got your pressure where it needs to be, we’re now going to look at the settings on the rest of the Profitec GO. There’s a couple of things that you can do on here, and one of the great features of the product is that you can control the brew temperature.

Straight out of the box it’s going to be set at 93° and that’s a great temperature to be using to get started. You do have the capability of changing it as I mentioned. You can also change the steam temperature. You can change the setting on when you get a notification on when it needs to be cleaned, and you also have eco mode. Eco mode is the period in which the machine will go into eco, and that means it’s using less energy.

Well first and foremost if you get your manual and you go to page 26, you’ll see all of the details in there of how to control the settings – but I’ll show you now.

So down here we’ve got a plus and a minus sign. We’re going to hit them both at the same time, and you’re going to go to t1, St, ECo, clean, Fahrenheit or Celsius, and back again. Then we use the right hand button to make the amend itself. So I’ll show you very quickly what we’re going to do on temperature. So we’ll hit both buttons at the same time, got to t1, and we can change that to 24, 25, 26 or back down again and then I would just leave it to take it back out of that screen.

To get started with your Profitec GO, you’re going to have your large portafilter basket and a small portafilter basket. The manufacturer describes this as a single cup for the small one, and a double cup for the large one. Typically, we only ever use the larger ones within the machines.
