Crew: What are we doing, where are we?
Jess: This is my bed, and I woke up like this.
So much of what I deliver on the bike is just who I am. When I'm coaching, I feel most vulnerable. There is no facade, there is no way that I could deliver anything but an authentic interpretation or expression of who I am. And I feel that way for every single coach. So if you don't resonate with that for me, you will with someone else, guaranteed. Choose your ride or your coach depending on what your need or your desire is for that day.
You can't predict the Peloton community. You can't say, “Oh, in six months it's going to be here, be there.” The riders have become such a force with a voice that they actually drive the coaches. It's become very family-like. You know, we were so passionate as coaches about getting messages across to riders or being there to support them and knowing what's going on in their lives and it's been one of the most beautiful relationships.
I'm very competitive, almost to a fault, and it started when I was five, probably.Probably he has a lot to do with my family my mom is from Chile and she's also a bodybuilder. I tried so hard to avoid going in that direction and turning into my mother. I refused, I always said, “I'm an artist, I'm a dancer.” And then I turned into my mother. Dance to me is a very selfish art. It was more that I was this emotional child and I understand the world through movement, so that's what dance was, it was healing, I could channel my life through through that. But this actually changes people's lives on a tangible level. I've had riders tell me that they're they've awakened and so I do have the ability to help and change and transform people. And I wanted to.
