Mercedes-Benz is flipping the script, with the 2023 Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA-Class, revealed in Munich at IAA 2023 to preview the company’s new, electric-first compact car platform.

The car rides on the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) and will be offered with two different batteries.

There’s no word on capacity, but the model is expected to have an energy consumption of 5.2 miles per kWh, with an anticipated range of more than 466 miles (750 kilometers) on the WLTP test cycle, almost exactly the same as the flagship Mercedes EQS.

Furthermore, the Concept CLA-Class boasts 250-kilowatt DC fast charging capability on an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing for an estimated 248 miles (400 km) of range added in just 15 minutes.

The rear-wheel drive Tesla Model 3 Long Range, by comparison, receives an 82 kWh battery and possesses a claimed WLTP range of 382 miles.

Production of the new electric luxury car will commence in late 2024, according to representatives, which suggests the final product will be the 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA.

Mercedes hasn't released pricing information yet, but it's expected to be around $56,000, and that would put it directly in line with the likes of the Tesla Model 3.
