"QUINNETUKUT" is Native American Indian and became "CONNECTICUT" The word "Quinnetukut" means "The place of the long water". I learned this at the museum along with many other things although I always knew CT was rich in Native American Indian History.
I explored the abandoned village before I went into the museum. The village wasn't actually abandoned, it's just that nobody was around and I was able to explore it out without distraction.
The large house / hut was made of tree bark and held together by sticks. There was a fire going inside and it was quite comfortable. I could live there.
I was able to get permission to film inside the museum although bright lights and flash is not allowed.
There is more to see than I have on video as well. You really need to go in person to experience the true beauty an read all the information boards. There is also a children's room and a large gift shop. In another building there is an "Escape Room" which is separate from the museum.
BE WARNED
There are skulls and bones and taxidermy. Scary masks as well.
On the lighter side there are Canoes, Cradleboards & Arrowheads
Even a couple of Skateboards ???
The official name of the museum is:
The Institute For American Indian Studies Museum & Research Center
38 Curtis Road, Washington CT
At the time of posting this video they are closed Monday & Tuesday and open 11AM to 4PM on other days
Adults admission was $12 - Seniors $10 & Child $8
I would check their website before you go.
I was offered a personal tour but declined. I'm not sure if that was the norm. They were a bit slow at the time and I think they were just being nice.
I prefer to investigate everything on my own and it's easier to film without the feeling of being rushed.
I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching. Please Subscribe.
