The Silver Shadow revolutionised Rolls Royce, but the Silver Cloud of the 1950s was the transitional model. Progressing from the Henry Royce era of limos to be driven in, the Cloud gave some consideration towards the driver arguably for the first time in a Rolls. Ultimately powered by the new V8 engine to compete with American luxury brands like Cadillac and Chrysler, the Cloud would bring RR into a more modern era, competing also with foreign brands like Mercedes and the revolutionary Citroen DS.
