Although episode 86, “Retrospective” just dropped, and that’s what everyone is talking about right now, I wanted to talk about Jean because he gets no love in the video essay/ analysis stratosphere. Jean Kirstein is one of Attack on Titan / Shingeki No Kyojin’s best characters, and I decided it was finally time to discuss why. How does one change? How does one go from a coward to a hero? How does one choose to face responsibility? I think Hajime Isayama has an answer for us. The psychology, philosophy, and symbolism behind it is pretty cool.

This video contains NO manga spoilers, and spoils up to season 4, episode 25, Night of The End.
