Take an inside tour of a historic Chinese store, restaurant, bank, doctor’s office, and post office, all in one original building at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park.

Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma is the site of the 1848 gold discovery that changed the course of history of California and the nation. Outdoor exhibits include a replica of the original sawmill where the first gold flake was found, original indigenous grinding rocks, and over 20 historic buildings that include miners’ cabins, a Chinese store, a one-room schoolhouse, churches, homes and businesses. Our museum houses artifacts belonging to James Marshall, the gold discoverer. We have a hilltop monument, blacksmith shop with live demonstrations, and a Gold Rush Research Library that houses journals, books, maps, and images focused on the California Gold Rush and peoples of Coloma.
