Malik ‘Leek’ Shepherd (February 1, 2000 - January 4, 2020) was an African-American teen who passed away at the age of 19 in Smithfield, North Carolina. He was a former Standout on the Smithfield Selma High School football team. Malik had aspirations of getting on a better path in life as he wanted to attend college and continue playing football. He is loved and missed by family and friends alike and continues to be a staple of why we must end hun violence against our young black men, against each other.


George Perry Floyd Jr. (October 14, 1973 – May 25, 2020) was an African-American man murdered by police during an arrest after a store clerk alleged he had passed a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis. Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. After his death, protests against police brutality, especially towards black people, quickly spread across the United States and internationally.

Finally, George may Rest In Peace and his family received their justice. April 20, 2021 at 5:09PM EST, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all 3 counts of murder in the death of George Floyd.
