My hopes with this video is to try and help out people struggling to get a start in this trade. It can be rough. A lot of bosses "motivate" young techs by yelling at them and making them feel like they can and will be fired at any point. When you have a family and are responsible for keeping a roof over your head and food on your table this will keep you awake at night...

We're all human. It's normal to struggle when you're starting out. We all did. Even your bosses and foremen that act like they never made a mistake in their life.. They struggled too. They still do. They just got good at hiding it. Nor do they know everything. They count on you not knowing enough to be able to call them out.

Of course not every place is like this. Some shops understand that it's in their best interests to help you grow and that if you succeed they succeed. If you found a place like this right away then awesome! All places should be like this. Good, bad or indifferent we are all people. Even if you're not a good fit for a shop and they decide to let you go you should still be treated like a person. It's not right to make someone feel like an abject failure, that they never could become anything of a tech and they should just drop out of the trade. I've seen many people leave the trade altogether when they could have become decent techs had they the fortune of starting off at a better shop. This is not right at all.

This is why I wanted to make this video. We all need support along the way. If you're not getting it at the shop you're working at then there are other places where you can get that support. Other people that can help you feel like you can do it and allow you to keep going through your hard times until you can find something better. Some shops will act like they own you and that they are your ONLY opportunity. You OWE them or you will fail. This is not true.

Sometimes you can find that help through a family member or friend, sometimes through a tool truck rep and sometimes through something like YouTube. When I was feeling down I'd watch @flatratemaster to keep on going. He's a person who's a peer of my bosses/foremen. Probably even a much better tech then they were. And he seems like he would have your back. That sorta thing gives you strength.

I don't want to see people who want to do this trade drop out because they are made to feel like they can't do this trade.
