I got to work with Mister James Brown in 1994 as Musical Director of the Michael Ball TV series. I got to choose my favorite of his songs, “It’s A Man’s Man’s World”. He loved the arrangements I’d done and we worked at combining his band with my band and orchestra, members of my jazz orchestra, BANDZILLA.
I also had the opportunity to talk to him about many things and found JB to be profound, committed to social issues, and a great lover of music, very knowledgeable about jazz.
His MD Charles ‘Sweets’ Sherell conducted his band while I conducted mine, offstage!
