Many have called it the best record ever made. And the ultimate rock and pop record. It is the ultimate expression and illustration of a recording technique that hundreds of icons have tried to copy but never equaled. You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling by the Righteous Brothers is the most played song in the history of the 20th century and it almost didn’t get played by radio. It was too long when Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield recorded it and Phil Spector produced it. It was almost 4 minutes long at a time when radio wouldn’t play anything over 3 minutes. Written by the legendary songwriting couple Barry Man and Cynthia Weil, the duo decided to fudge the numbers a little and wrote down 3:05 on the tape they sent to radio even though it was closer to 4 mins long. It got played and became a #1 smash. Up next in the mother of all song stories.. the last surviving member of the Righteous Brothers Bill Medley and hall of fame songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil tell the story of this 60s classic that was used in Top Gun!

This very well could be the pinnacle of our programming. With historic interviews with the songwriters and the last remaining member of the duo that recorded it here to tell the definitive story of this classic. The song hit #1 and it was the most-played radio song of the 20th century.. yet the singer felt it had no chance of even getting airplay because the song was too long. Back then artists could only get airplay if their songs were 3 minutes. So they sent in the tape and lied about its length writing down 3:05 even though it was almost 4. The story is next.

It’s time for another episode of our series revelations where featured artists reveal rare stories about their greatest songs and albums, legendary accounts that you won’t find anywhere else.

On this installment of Revelations, we have a very special episode. It’s actually historic. Many musicians and historians have called the original recording "one of the best records ever made" and "the ultimate pop record".In 1999 the performing-rights organization(BMI) ranked it as the most-played song on American radio and television in the entire 20th century, having accumulated more than 8 million airplays by 1999, It would nearly double to 15 million by 2011 and it held the title of being the most-played song for decades until 2019 when it was overtaken by the Police’s Every Breath you Take. I’m talking about the classic hit You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ by the Righteous Brothers.

I have interviews with the last remaining Righteous Brother, the main singer behind this classic as well as the writers of the song the husband and wife brill building writing duo of Barry Man and Cynthia Weil. It may well be this channel’s defining piece of content.
