Live | Portugal Marks 50th Anniversary Of Carnation Revolution Army Coup That Brought Democracy N18L

Celebrations take place across Lisbon and around the country to mark the anniversary of the military coup that took down one of Europe’s longest dictatorship on the 25th April of 1974. A special military parade led by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa takes place at Praca do Comercio in Lisbon. Around 1100 military officials from the Portuguese Navy, Air Force and Army take part in the parade that will also include 5 navy ships by the river Tagus and the flyover of several helicopters and planes. Thereafter, there will be a re-enactment of some of the military movements that were key to the military coup on the morning of the 25th of April.
