Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American animated environmentalist television program created by Ted Turner and Barbara Pyle. The series was produced by Turner Program Services and DiC Animation City and it was broadcast on TBS from September 15, 1990, to December 5, 1992. A sequel series, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, was produced by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc. and distributed by Turner Program Services and was broadcast from September 11, 1993, to May 11, 1996. The program is a form of edutainment and advocates environmentalism and is famous for having a number of famous actors providing voices for the villains. The show spawned a franchise consisting of a charity, a Marvel comic book series and video games.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers, an animated series from the 90s, championed environmental awareness with a blend of action and education. Gaia, the spirit of Earth, empowers five teenagers from different corners of the globe – the Planeteers. Each wields a ring connected to an element – Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. When environmental threats like pollution or deforestation emerge, the Planeteers unite their rings to summon Captain Planet, a powerful green superhero who tackles these issues head-on. The show's villains embody the forces harming the environment, from greedy industrialists to oil tycoons. Beyond thrilling fights, Captain Planet emphasized education and empowered young viewers to make responsible choices, leaving a nostalgic reminder of the importance of environmental responsibility even today.
