Part of the charm of YUNGBLUD is that, by all appearances, the Yorkshire punk really doesn’t give a flying you know what about what other people think. Nowhere is that more apparent than in his 2023 singles - the self-effacing “Lowlife” and highly confessional “Hated.” It’s a cohesive pairing; both find him frankly airing dirty habits, rumors, and secrets. As he explained to Rolling Stone, the former is about craving “the type of boredom where you sit in your house, in the same sheets and watch fucking mind-numbing TV.” A familiar backbone of pop vocal hooks, rock arrangements, and a dash of hip-hop abrasion hearken back to the hit track “parents” from his 2020 album ‘weird!’ General malaise aside, performing is one thing the mascara’d mad lad does care about. We should know. This is our fourth time shooting with our man, and there’s a reason we keep coming back. YUNGBLUD never fails to grab the camera and demand you lend an ear to his angst. By the time it’s over, you’re searching your bag for another application of eyeliner.
