At about midnight, a line of more than 100 officers stood at attention as two white vans carried two officers bodies from the emergency room at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. to the crime lab. Dozens of police cars and fire trucks flashed their lights soundlessly. The only noise was Air One circling overhead. The officers were fatally shot responding to a call earlier in the day.
