Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has had a shaky start. After scoring massive viewing numbers at release, interest in Amazon's flagship series has been dwindling. There are a multitude of reasons for the decline, including disagreements over Amazon's diversity push. But even if Rings of Power followed Tolkien's lore on skin color, the show still would have been a disappointment. Modern Hollywood is not the ideal environment for Tolkien's religious story. Cynical stories like (early) Game of Thrones and Euphoria are able to thrive, but Lord of the Rings belongs to a different creative era. In this video, I explain the identity crisis plaguing The Rings of Power and why it is unlikely to be cured.
