This one will no doubt be controversial, but from Dave's Roof Autopsy (see below) and our prep work last autumn, we had a plan to commence with this ASAP focussing only on the north-side emergency section first. The fact we weren't there for half of it made documenting it tricky, but hopefully we've just about done it in this video with some sketchy narration and fun in the process. The ugly duckling stage is here, but hold onto your hats because in the end, she'll be beaut. Thank goodness the drying process can start in this section 🥳

The option to completely reconfigure the property to remove any flat roofs was always on the table, it is the ideal solution, but it's also the most expensive for a wide range of reasions in this older part of the farmhouse building. The "repair and replace as needed" option took the win, and given that we have a huge amount of buildings to fix up, it makes sense.

Lifespans added:
👎 Previous roof = Well past end of life in all areas, as we saw!
👍 This roof = Guaranteed for a minimum of 30 years, the EPDM has a lifespan of 50 or more (but can puncture so we need to be super careful on the maintenance), and the structural areas plus slate shouldn't need revisiting for 70 years or so either.

In 30-40 years time we can re-evaluate the layout and coverings as needed, hopefully with less budget and time pressure 🤓
