Kellingley Colliery in North Yorkshire is the last deep coal mine in Britain, but now it is due to close, bringing a once proud industry to an end. What will become of the men who spent their days in the dark to keep our lights on?

In the first of a two part series, we meet the crew who spend hours, 800 metres below the ground. As the 450 miners prepare to lose their jobs, they know there's still work to do. We join them on their commute to work, 800 metres below the ground and 4 miles to the coalface. They face many battles in a days work such as mechanical breakdowns, hot and humid temperatures and even severe health concerns.
