In Las Villas, Cuba, in 1934, the 2 sons of Benito, a wealthy land owner in the town of Aguada, were taken hostage. Jose and Claudio Lliraldi were walking on their way to their father's ranch when they were kidnapped.
The kidnappers were well armed and demanded 30 thousand dollars in return for their release. And then they lowered their ransom to 800 dollars, which was handed over to them near Benito's ranch, and his boys were then released. When the The locals, the police, and the military became aware, and the posse went after the abductors.
It was made known to the newspaper reporters, by Alejandro Vergara, the Mayor of Aguada de Pasajeros, that these fugitives were part of a well organized crime gang that worked in the area.
A violent shootout ensued, capturing one Alejandro Mederos, who was found with weapons, ammunition, and money from the kidnapping.

Benito was my great granduncle, brother to my great grandfather Felix Lliraldi Hernandez.
Benito Jose de los Dolores Lliraldi Hernandez, was born the 21st of March 1874, in Alacranes, Matanzas, Cuba.
He was the son of Domingo Lliraldi Focha and Facunda Hernandez Mendez.
His father Domingo was an Italian immigrant to the island, and his mother was born in Cuba.
When I was growing up, my father would once in a while recount, that Domingo Lliraldi, when interacting with others, was difficult for the locals to understand, as he only spoke Italian.
There is a lot of mysteries surrounding the Lliraldi family in Cuba, The origin of the prior spelling of the name, but we have learned interesting details, in addition to the family history that was passed down.
