Extending the hip ≠ hip extension.

Hip extension is getting the knee behind the butt and chances are this is a position you AREN'T hitting on the regular. And maybe kind of suck at.

Because most of us are stuck in hip flexion...

The solution is simple: find ways to put more hip extension into your day/training.

Work it into your warm ups. Throw in some isometrics. Get the knee behind the hip during rear elevated split squats.
