This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Volvo C40 Recharge full electric compact SUV. Based on the Volvo XC40 Recharge electric crossover, this more stylish utility is much more expensive. The C40 has a twin P8 AWD electric powertrain with a 78 kWh battery. 402 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque with 364 km/225 miles of EV range. It has a starting price of $72,600 CAD/$58,750 USD. The Volvo C40 Recharge is based on the same platform as the XC40 Recharge but there is no gas model available like the XC40 and it has a coupe-like exterior design with a slim profile, black roof, black exterior accents including the mirror caps and 20” wheels with a diamond cut design. The rear wheels are wider than the front wheels to optimize handling, traction and control. It comes standard with LED headlights, taillights, fog lights and headlamp cleaners. The C40 has a heat pump and a heated windscreen washer nozzle. This Volvo crossover comes standard with a 9” touchscreen with the Google Android-based infotainment system, 12.3” driver display, 360-degree camera, a Harman Kardon audio system, heated front seats, power driver and passenger seat, driver seat memory, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a panoramic roof and hands-free power tailgate. The charcoal and blue interior of the Volvo C40 Recharge is 100% leather-free including the steering wheel, gear shifter and upholstery, it has a bit of a contemporary design. The seats have partly recycled microfibre seat panels and inserts in Microtech, a synthetic material. Front power driver and passenger seats with 4-way power lumbar support add comfort for those long drives. It offers a higher seating position similar to the XC40 and there are smart storage solutions throughout the cabin including a centre console garbage can. The C40 has an 11 kW onboard charger and with a DC Faster charger you can charge from 10-80% in about 33 minutes. With a Level 2 Charger about 8 hours. The C40 does not qualify for the Canadian Federal EV rebate of $5,000 but the XC40 Recharge does. In the US, the C40 qualifies for tax up to $7,500.
