He argues that the United States, which positions itself as a defender of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, is hypocritical in its approach towards Israel. Furthermore, Bortolo accuses the European Union of being complicit in the harm caused by the United States' policy towards Israel. Lastly, he suggests that the Palestinians are not viewed as human beings deserving of protection.

Evarist Bartolo was appointed Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta on 15 January 2020. Born on 14 October 1952, Bartolo graduated from the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons) degree in English Literature and continued his studies in journalism at Stanford University. He also read for a Master’s in Education at the University of Cardiff.
