Andrea De Filippi is the latest artist out of Genoa to charm lovers of Italian pop. Performing as ALFA throughout his teenage years, the 20-something has both youth and experience on his side, and credits fellow northern Italian acts such as Fabrizio De Andrè, Gino Paoli, Ivano Fossati for tilling the region into a fertile creative ground. He’s simply updating the region’s musical history with his modern blend of pop, songwriting and folk. “I wrote my best songs in the early morning on a beach near my house, in front of the sea,” says the “Cin Cin” singer. Indeed, there are many moments on his two albums - 2019’s ‘Before Wanderlust’ and 2021’s ‘NoRd’ - that feel like slices of paradise. He even got to craft the projects with his best pal and producer Yanomi. Pretty idyllic. With more than three million monthly Spotify listeners, 1.5 million TikTok followers, and some platinum and gold records to his name, it wasn’t a surprise that he sold out his 2023 club tour. The momentum kept building when ALFA dropped ‘bellissimissima’ with the advent of summer; it’s already double platinum certified and helped lead to a performance in Milan’s Mediolanum Forum Arena in 2024. The feel-good anthem sounded great on our DSCVR stage. Paired with the friendly jaunt of “Sofia,” these performances will whisk you away to the Italian seaside. Feel the breeze in your face yet?
