Jaap Blonk is a self-trained Dutch composer and performance artist. Deeply influenced by Kurt Schwitters, Blonk’s sound poetry collages snippets of text, clicks, sputters, howls, and wordless singing. Damon Smith is a double bassist based in St. Louis but formerly the linchpin of Houston’s creative music scene for nearly a decade. This special showcase features Blonk’s performance of Schwitters’ “Ursunate,” Smith’s performance of Ben Patterson’s “Variations for Double Bass (1961),” and a duo performance of works by Hugo Ball.
