As we transition to a lower impact lifestyle, Patti and I are going to begin vegetable gardening on a larger scale. This is the 4th year I have owned this property and the first time I have had a good place for a vegetable garden. We also have decided to stop keeping honey bees and focus on native pollinators. We skimmed the grass and weeds off the future garden location. We then added some topsoil, compost, and shredded bark mulch. We then rebuilt the chainlink fence that was previously at my parents house. We then added the fertilizers recommended by the Penn State Extension office. We then began forming partially raised beds which we planted with some cold hardy early vegetables. We are using some geotextile fabric as weed cloth to hopefully reduce the weeding.
