This tutorial shows how to locate the claim code on your gift card, if it was a scratch off one bought from a brick and mortar store. It shows where within the Amazon app you need to go to enter that code, and gives you info on what to type in and what not to type in (dashes, spaces, upper case, etc.). The app is pretty much the same on Apple iPhone versus Android.
