Peter fells and debarks a spruce log for the center purlin of the roof. He employs rope and ramp to gain mechanical advantage to raise the purlins. He constructs a sleeping loft at one end of the cabin, using rough sawn pine.
After a hard day's work, Peter goes to the root cellar to get carrots, potatoes, cabbage and parsnips to add to his venison stew that he is cooking over the open fire of his primitive shelter.
