On Thursday, February 8, 2024, Deputy Sheriff Greg McCowan was shot and killed while initiating a traffic stop in Maryville, Tennessee. His partner, Deputy Shelby Eggers, was also shot in the leg, but was able to apply a tourniquet to herself and with the assistance of some locals, is expected to make a full recovery.
This past Sunday, the community came together in solidarity for Deputy McCowan and Deputy Eggers. The convoy met at Pellissippi State Community College for staging (3 main groups, motorcycles, Jeeps, all others), that included collection of donations and a short program with remarks from a local pastor. The Memorial Ride kicked off at 1pm and traveled down 321 into Maryville and finally down Tuckaleechee Pike beside Grandview Cemetery where Deputy McCowan's is laid to rest.
