"Merry Melodies". Together with the polka-mazurka Die Träumerin (Op. 208), the waltz Heitere Weisen was composed by Eduard for a festivity organised by the ‘Eintracht’ Association on 7 September 1882 in the Floral Halls of the Imperial-Royal Horticultural Society, Vienna. ‘Eintracht’ (Harmony) was the name of the Association of Administrative Personnel of Viennese Newspapers and the charitable event raised funds for the Association’s Benevolent Society for Pensions and Support of Widows and Orphans. For the first time, the magnificently decorated gardens and interior of the premises were lit by electric light and the entire occasion had been organised in honour of the visitors to the ‘Tenth International Cereals and Seed Fair’. Eduard and the Strauss Orchestra provided the musical entertainment, alongside the band of the 53rd Infantry Regiment, C.W. Drescher’s ‘Capelle Amusement’ and the ‘Wiener Liedertafel’ male voice chorus.
