0:07 During the past year, we have all learned how to do amazing events online. We found entertainers. We found speakers. We found ways to make meaning in these events.
0:17 but the thing we keep missing is that for the guest experience for the person coming in sometimes they just don’t know what’s going on.
0:24 they know that you’ve sent them an email but they don’t quite know during the event where to go.
0:28 that’s why you need a master of ceremonies. The job of a master of ceremonies is several fold. One it’s to be enthusiastic about what’s going on.
0:37 It’s to send the enthusiasm through the camera and make all the folks who are watching that are taking part of the event excited to be there.
0:44 next is to give some sort of framing to the things that we are doing. If you have an amazing guest speaker, an amazing event happening, sometimes you need to explain what people are seeing so they know how amazing that event is.
0:58 next is something I like to call air traffic control. If you’re doing specially a bunch of events over a couple of days period or over a bunch hours and they’re in different places, even though you sent folks to that email they don’t necessarily remember to go back.
1:14 you need a person that can tell them these are all of the places you can go. These are all the things you can do. These are all of the ways to get there.
1:21 if we were still in a physical space this would be the kind of thing you take care of with message boards everywhere. Well there’s reasons all those message boards are there.
1:30 it’s to remind people of all the different things they can do. Finally it’s to take those events coming in the future and make it clear to people why they want to be there. Why it’s important to them so that you get the maximum bang out of what you’ve done for all of these events.
1:45 if you’re having something at the end of your function and you’re giving away an amazing prize and people don’t understand there’s an amazing prize at the end, nobody is going to come and it’s going to be a waste of your resources.
1:57 so that’s the other thing that a master of ceremonies should be doing. Making sure people are excited in the event they are in. That they understand why they are there. They know where other events are. They know why those events are important to them.
2:09 and if there’s a really marquee thing the master of ceremonies makes sure that everyone knows that there’s a really marquee thing they need to be a part of.
2:18 so these are all of the reasons. Even though over the last a year to 18 months we’ve all learned how to do amazing events, a master of ceremonies is still critical to your event because you want to make sure that all this work you’ve done is noticed by all of the people who are attending the event.
